The great diversity of national circumstances, systems o government and historical situations shows that the idea of human rights has developed more quickly in some countries than in others and that it has thrived on many different terrains. And yet, in spite of different starting points, the routes taken all lead to similar destinations.
The aim of this anthology is ambitious – to publish those fundamental text which have caused the idea of human rights to take root in European countries and grow in the minds of people.
