Individual applications

Article 34: any person, non-governmental organisation or group of individuals alleging a violation of a right recognised by the European Convention may lodge an application with the Court.

Article 34 entitles an individual or an entity believing that their rights protected under the Convention have been violated to submit an application to the Court, once all possible remedies have been exhausted. These domestic remedies must have satisfied a criterion of effectiveness. If that is not the case, it is possible to directly request a ruling from the Court.

See the section providing information on the Court for details of the procedure to follow.
